Last night I got to do something I wish I could have done as a child. I was let loose in a shop with a gift card to buy whatever toys I wanted! So you know what I did? I went and bought the games I was always envious of my friends for having!

Actually my brother and I had Operation when we were kids along with a lot of other really cool games, but I always wanted Hungry Hippos and Mouse Trap! And now I do! I mean, and now the CrashKids have them *ahem*.
The Target Toy Sale started with a VIP shopping session on Wednesday night and when I first arrived I was overwhelmed by all the licensed branded toys. They really don’t do it for me. I’m also not a huge fan of plastic (yes I know the games I bought are plastic), but I mean things like massive plastic kitchens and cubby houses. I can’t tell you how I perked up when I found the games aisle. There were so many good games from my childhood that stand the test of time.
My favourites (which we didn’t have) were the aforementioned hippos and a game that I can’t for the life of me remember the name. I think is might have been called Splash and there was a bathtub of water at the top with a flamingo in it. You pulled the flamingo out and the water flowed down through the different obstacles. Am I going crazy? Does anyone know the game I mean?
The games that we did have as kids and loved were:
Cluedo
The Game of Life
Connect Four
Scotland Yard

Oh the fights, I mean the memories! The CrashKids aren’t really old enough for these games and we’re holding back Operation and Mouse Trap until Christmas. In the meantime we’ll have fun chomping marbles (or marshmallows as the kids have dubbed them) until they’ve all been lost.
One down, nineteen to go ;)
What were your favourite childhood board games?
Laney x
PS If you’ve read this early enough today, I still have a $50 Target gift card to giveaway until midnight AEST on the 22nd. To enter head over to my FB page. Australian residents only sorry :)
Disclosure: I received Target gift cards for the purpose of experiencing the Target Toy Sale and wanted to share my story with you :)

Monopoly. Oh the arguments we used to have, calling each other cheaters if we were losing. Far out the memories still make me smile. In fact we are still sore losers that even as adults we can’t play a fair game.
I loved Monopoly too Rebecca! It’s more fun with more people though. There was usually just me and my brother buying everything up left right and centre!
Definitely Operation and Build a beetle. Loved those games. My kids are big Monopoly fans.
CrashHubby couldn’t wait until Christmas to crack open Operation. CrashGirl loves it and is really good at it too! Build a beetle is fun, I gave it as a present last year. So cute!
Love board games! We never had many when I was a child so I am rectifying that too. Every year Santa buys the family a board for Christmas. Great way to get a collection of them but it is hard to choose just one!

That’s a great present from Santa! I’ll have to steal that idea (or at least write to Santa and tell him about it!)
I loved Connect4, Guess Who and Game of Life! Cluedo is my favourite now, but I’m so bad at it!!

Oh I LOVE all of those games, and it’s taking WAY too long for my kids to get old enough to play them ;)
My favourites are definitely Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Operation, Trouble, Connect 4, and Chess and Checkers – I live for board games :)

They are so much fun. We busted out Mouse Trap because we just couldn’t wait until Christmas. It was a bit too complicated for the kids, but hubby and I had fun ;)
OMG Finally found other people who LOVE board games as much as me… My family was good with little name board games such as the fishing one with the magnetic fish and skippo!! But as our kids are young 94.5 and 2) we get as many games as possible (from Santa) for Christmas that will be relevant to that age group for the year. Last year we did Elefun and this year it is hippos and the Cars operation to Jazz up operation a bit.. But my hubby loves cluedo so i recently got that for him as we have a few for just us too to play at night. We also have monopoly and uno!! Classic
I love cludeo too! I’m trialling some EA mobile games from Hasbro on the iPad. They include oldies like The Game of Life and Trivial Pursuit. So much fun!
