Hello from New York City!
So, I bet you're all wondering how I'm going? Was it possible for me to be tech-lite whilst at BlogHer? Well for starters, I wrote most of this post before I even left Melbourne, just so all that I had to do once here was to give you a quick update, therefore minimising my time spent tapping away and fiddling around with formatting.
Actually, it hasn't been that hard for a couple of reasons. Firstly we weren't able to get a local data package for our phones here, only talk and text. So wireless access has been the only option. We have wireless in the apartment, at Starbucks and at the conference.
However . . . . the wireless at the conference was terrible, as is the coffee in Starbucks ;). So my online access has been curbed for me and I've enjoyed it. I've discovered I can batch my social media tasks into a condensed period of time and then just get on with enjoying the city.
I also managed to take photos and put up a blog post about Summer in the City with Sussan using a wireless eye-fi SD card, Flickr, and the Blogsy app on my iPad. I must admitt I had troubles with Blogsy today but I think it was related to the patchy wi-fi at the conference.
I'll apologise for not showing you much of NY via Instagram, but believe me when I say the photos I've been taking with my DSLR are way better and I'm looking forward to shharing them with you when I get home.
Enough about me though. I'll come back with a better update on how I'm managing to put boundaries around my social media and technology use once I'm back to normal programming in Melbourne. For now, pop on over to Slow Your Home to see how Brook has got on in her first week.
If you have joined in the challenge (did you put your name down in the comments last week????), then please tell us how you're managing in the comments below :)

Good job, Laney. Have been enjoying your updates and looking forward to seeing more photos!
I seem to be self-sabotaging, and have spent more time in front of the computer in the last week than ever. Sigh. Must work on that…
loving hearing about your adventure in NY! I lost my iPhone last Tuesday and still havent found it so I guess I can join in the tech lite challenge! I am actually liking not being so connected to the internet!

I haven’t been meaning so much to limit my tech-time but the demands of school, sport and kids have made it happen… and it’s all right. Makes me realise that I am doing too much online, and I’d like to do more medium and long-term writing projects. Less quick and immediate but good to add in to the mid for deeper satisfaction maybe. Hope NYC is howing you a great time.

I agree you can definitely be more creative when you spend more time offline. New York was brilliant. Missing it already.
