Chasing the light in Greenwich Village

Well, just like that I’m back in Melbourne.  My trip to New York was surreal.  6 days spent wringing every minute out of an amazing city.  It didn’t leave much time for blogging, having spent more time behind a camera lens rather than in front of a computer screen.  So here I am catching you up on my adventures in photos.

Follow me on my little one hour adventure as I picked up my camera and chased the light through Greenwich Village from 6.30 to 7.30pm.

Watching life go by on 6th Avenue

Jefferson Market Garden

 Sunbeams on Jefferson Market Garden

Locals chill out to beautiful guitar playing in Jefferson Market Garden

The setting sun bounces light bouncing off the windows of the building across 6th Avenue

Catching the last beams of the day

A curious alignment

Peeking into a private garden

A pop of green on Minetta Lane

A quick stop to say hello to Marley

Possibly my favourite photo of the evening – stunning light

Wishing I had one of these to save my legs on the walk home!

I hope you enjoyed my photos.  I certainly enjoyed taking them.  A lot of things started to click (pun intended!) with my photography as I got to know my camera better.  I was definitely inspired by Rachel Devine’s book and had just got back from a photography workshop she spoke at before heading out to take these.  This photo crash test has definitely resulted in better photos of New York that last time I was here!

If you like them, please comment so I know if you want to see more.  I have many more!

Laney x

Thanks Michelle. It was pretty hot when we were there, with the odd thunderstorm. It would probably be a little more bearable in September. Imagine Central Park in the Fall? Stunning.

  6. Love the photos! More please! X

  7. They are all gorgeous shots. Well done! With where I am in photography now, I would love to go back to all the places I travelled in the past, especially New York, and be snap happy. It would be so rewarding! BTW, if you love “chasing light” there is an amazing Instagrammer who does just that. She has beautiful nature shots. @lena_rin #chasinglight.

Thanks Alli. I’ve got quite a few more! That little garden was just gorgeous. There is a group of locals who volunteer to look after it. I made a donation to visit, it’s such a precious little pocket.

  10. Well Done Laney, they are brilliant shots.
