I’m not called Crash Test Mummy for nothing. I have 3 car crashes to my name. Not something I’m proud of, and also not something I thought of much when I became a parent.
Approximately 500 children are killed or injured each year on Australian roads.
And far too many adults too. It scares the hell out of me. Even if my driving is meticulous, some idiot could still end it all for us.
Which is why I’ve decided to put my efforts into promoting car, driver and passenger safety. It is my chosen cause and is not affiliated with any one organisation. It’s just a message I’m keen to get out there so we can bring that number down.
Introducing Crash Safe

My main objective is to get parents to think about the question:
“How Crash Safe are you?”
Crash Safe is my own initiative, but I will at times work with relevant companies and organisations to bring you information and products that will help keep your families safe on the roads.
I made this video. Please watch it because it makes a very important point. Hopefully it will make you think. Or you can at least rate my crash out of 5.
Coming up this week I have some great giveaways with
Britax Safe-n-Sound child restraints and Tom Tom, so keep an eye out for the next posts.
Have you checked the safety rating of your car?

Such an important issue and some really tragic stories in the media this week of horrific crashes. Anything that can be done to help bring down this toll can only be a good thing. X
Martine’s last post..How well do you know your kids? The benefits of role playing
I am on the same page as you, I recently wrote a post about car seats if you want to check it out. It’s about keeping children rear facing for longer. This would significantly reduce injuries of children in crashes.
Wow, You certainly got the point across. That would have been so scary. I hope you weren’t hurt. Rachel x

Omg that gave me a fright!
Anyway I work in security and my boss always tells us this when during security assessments – safety, security then convenience. Too bad so many choose convenience over the other 2 and neglect safety and security. All the best in promoting this message Laney!

Yvette @ Little Bento Blog’s last post..wonder winnie juice and giveaway!
Yes! The contrast between how much time is indeed spent choosing safe items for the littles in the home, but not driving safely. Even small things like all the people I now see not bothering to indicate any more- drives me batty that we have to be so vigilant for the stupid things everyone around us is doing too- especially this time of year.
Great post….and a very important post.
I work in orthopaedic trauma operating theatres and I get the chills every time we get a call saying that the helicopter or ambulance is bringing in the victim of a car accident.
You have no idea how awful car accidents can be until you see the damage that they can inflict.
I get very angry when I see people speeding or driving recklessly…there is simply no need for bad behaviour on the roads.
Every person is someone’s child.
Mother Down Under’s last post..All I Want For Christmas
Road safety is something I’ve written about before – though from a different angle.
Having been first on the scene of multiple accidents, and having had way too many near-misses myself, I am becoming rather ranty about the subject these days. Sure, there are some accidents that just can’t be avoided – but a lot can. And the potential damage caused by accidents that are unavoidable can be significantly reduced by knowing how to drive defensively, as opposed to aggressively.
Unfortunately though, too many drivers don’t drive their cars these days – they AIM them.
Chantelle Dalgarno’s last post..My Funeral Plan…
This is something my husband and I always talk about, the fact that no matter how careful we are, if someone else is being a dickhead on the road our chances pf survival are slim. And there are so may dickheads.

This freightens the bee-jeebers out of me. It’s always something on my mind. My biggest fear, that is, the other idiots on the road and how ignorant people can be and the harm they can cause. This last week has provided some horrifying images of fatal road crashes which have inbedded into my psyche. Thank you for promoting something that is so important and for reminding us of our responsibilites.
Vicki @ Knocked Up and Abroad’s last post..‘Tis the Season to be …. Giving.
Always good to highlight car safety, especially at this time of year where we hit the roads en masse. I am often having conversations with my 4 year old son about cars and safety – he’s quite obsessed with motorbikes and the idea of having one when he grows up (which absolutely terrifies me – but he has two uncles who drive motorbikes) so I am hoping to brainwash him early that cars are much safer to drive.. in the hope that something sticks and when he is old enough he makes a good choice. You shouldn’t live in fear – but you can be in control of making your own good choices. Let’s hope he or his friends aren’t dickheads…
Kate’s last post..Myer Melbourne Santaland 2012
Such an important message Laney, especially at this time of the year. I really hope you can help families become more crash safe through this initiative – good luck with it.
Kirsty @ My Home Truths’s last post..I’m Not a Writer
It is scary how many crashes our happening on our roads – there is a spot near Mackay that has accidents all of the time…and they are fatal crashes. Closing the highway for hours.
Yet its not the most dangerous road in Australia…more of a boring road.
And so many kids get hurt by cars running them over. or worse…so yep staying safe around Road/ cars and people is really important.
Hope you are all ok?
Good video/great message.

Laney you are incredible you really are and I so love that your heart is always in the right place. Having survived an awful crash myself this is something that is ALWAYS on my mind when I have the kids in the car. Welldone on helping to get this message out there and hopefully saving some lives. xx
Sonia Life Love Hiccups’s last post..The One Where I Was a Catwalk Model and Other Random Moments
Thanks Sonia. It’s something I feel strongly about, and I think we can all get a bit blasé about road safety because we drive around every day. I see some absolute idiots on the road and it makes my blood boil.
