So you know how I’m dragging you along on this ride to get sorted, take care and have fun? Well, I think we need to take the whole ‘get sorted’ thing to a new level.
I’m pretty good at Googling my way through life, but what about other technologies that might make our lives easier?
Thanks to Shae at Free Range in Suburbia I discovered the app Homeroutines (not a sponsored mention or link by the way) which has basically turned me into my iPhone’s b*tch! Little chimes go off, I do stuff around the house it tells me to do and then I get to give myself a virtual gold star!
I’m not sure how it has this power over me, but I think it may have something to do with my susceptibility to games like Diner Dash. At least I’m actually cleaning up a real life kitchen these days ;).
I’m intrigued that this little app is actually making a difference, so now I’m keen to discover some other ideas to crash test that will help make our lives easier.
Here’s some things I’d like a bit of help with:
- Menu planning
- Clearing the garage of our no longer used baby gear
- Completing the storage and back up steps from my yet to be completed 5 steps to organising your digital photos
- Managing the family budget
- Working on my relationship with Siri

I said “Great, can you start with my bedroom?” BED room, BEDROOM! As in organise it for me? I give up.
Ok, help me out here. What apps, programs, devices, subscriptions, blogs or websites have you used to get you organised? Leave a comment and relevant links below and sort me out!
I’ll be back next week with my crash test findings on how I can use technology to get sorted!
Cheers,
Laney x

Ha ha! I got frustrated with Siri’s inability to hear what I’m saying properly, so I said “Siri, you just don’t understand me!” She replied “I’m sorry Alana, I’ll try harder.”
I am a total app addict especially ‘productivity’ apps so I am off to check that on out asap. What I’d like to know is there an app that you can ask ‘When did I last?’ for less frequent tasks. For example, I input when I buy new toothbrushes, and it starts counting the days, and I can then ask it ‘When did I last replace the toothbrushes?’ and it will give me a tally of days. Is there an app for that? I’d add things like washing the windows, turning the mattress, get the car serviced, etc or you could could use it for motivation e.g. when did I last eat chocolate?! Maybe I should get my clever techie brother to create it for me!
Thanks for the Monday morning giggle Laney, that Siri! What a card.

That sounds like a great idea for an app. Let me know if you find anything or get your brother to make it! I was really excited about the Siri function, but all we’ve had is whacky conversations that I give up on and just do the task myself!
I’m looking forward to this one! I’m Android rather the iPhone….. I don’t even use the calendar on my phone let alone other fancy stuff! Bring it on xx
I really don’t like the Mac iCal, and I’m starting to get annoyed with Entourage too. I miss Outlook – a lot :(. I guess there are sacrifices when you switch to Apple.
I run a spreadsheet for my budget and a daily to do list (for work) where I map my activity by the hour. A necessity of working in a time sheet environment. But keeps you on track nonetheless. I need to get more all over Evernote rather than arriving at meetings with bags full of too much stuff!
My favourite app of the minute is the woolworths one. The tomato sauce gets low, and i just scan the bar code to add it to my shopping list. I can shop online straight from the app, or pop into my locals woollies and the list will be sorted by aisle so I never get to the checkout without forgetting something ever again. It’s gold!
I’m curious about Evernote. I’d love someone to show me how to use it so I don’t have to work it out myself! The Woolies app sounds hands. Wish our local wholesale market had one!
I have no suggestions except to say stuff the housework, instagram is wayyy more fun. I also think I have a communication problem with Siri as she never understands a word I say! :) xx

Your wish is my command Sonia – especially today! I’ve been playing around with the new Time Capsule on Mamamia, way more fun indeed!
Maybe Siri is not programmed to understand kiwi accents…
This is both funny and true!
No advice at all from me CTM. I’ve just worked out I can set the alarm on my phone to remind me to charge it every night. I’m talking basics here my friend :) Will look forward to reading about what you come up with.
